The "hand of fate" makes me think of a Vincent Price movie! Someone sinister is reaching for the glass of amontillado. I think you just need to make the new additions match the richness of the original stuff with more values, contrast and color.
Yes, it does look a good cover for a mystery novel. I like the addition of the pink flower with the black heart too. Good job. I predict a best seller
