Can you tell where this is? Yes, it's another of the France paintings I promised (threatened?) last week. This is the Eiffel Tower and other Paris landscape elements silhouetted against the sunset sky. I may do this again, but with a touch more color in the sky...or not.

And again, as promised, some links to the perfect stocking stuffer for artist friends you may know. Here's an enamel pin (shown on my paint bag for scale). It actually spins! You can quickly look up monochrome, complementary, triadic and analagous color schemes. It's petite (about 2"round) but useful. Here's the link for the pin. And here's the link to a keychain version, if you'd like that better.
The sunset behind the tower is perfect. It takes courage to use the darks like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alan, that sunset low on the horizon through all that soot, so well done. I guess I shouldn't say soot. It's delicate and lacy. The tower itself is upstaged, but that's okay. After sitting at a table drinking absinthe and smoking gauloises and discussing ourselves a little Sartre, we can adjust out berets and mosey on down the road to get a better gander at it.
ReplyDeleteWonder what happened to my earlier comment? Anyways the photo doesn’t do this justice, since the subtle reds are washed out. But I love the light behind the buildings and those trees are masterpieces!
ReplyDeleteLove this. I’ve had photos where the trees look black and have wondered how to paint them. Now I see that u have to actually make them very dark to make it work.
ReplyDeleteThe photo here may be just a bit misleading. It looks blacker than it really is. In real life, it's very dark but with slight shifts to blue or brown. It's a mixture of our old favorites, ultramarine blue and transparent red iron oxide.
DeleteA gorgeous painting and yeah, the computer photo doesn't do it justice. The subtlety of colors is awash.
