Elaine O. — February 13, 2021

I've finished this and started sketching another. I'm not thrilled with it, but I like it better now that I've cropped an inch or so from the bottom. Basically, though, I didn't get a lot of painting done this week. A lot of impeachment trial watching, comfort cooking (soup, bread, pizza) and, of course, eating the comfort food. Maybe next week!

Going to the Art Institute    10" x 8"

  1. Great painting! You should do a book of Chicago specific scenes like this, and your guy at the el station. That would be cool, you’re so great at capturing the details without overworking the colors. Plus the composition on this is great with that tree setting off all the buildings. It makes me long for summer!

  2. Love this scene. Moving toward one of my favorite places. Love the cars, the shadows, and how u got the bldg without a lot of detail.

  3. Ah a trip to Art Institute on a pleasant afternoon. Walk down the shady side of the street and cross Michigan to where that Streetwise guy is telling all his cornball jokes. At the zoom there was some talk of the cars, and I think the whole problem is present day automobiles which look like squashed jelly beans. The cars before the 80s had pleasanter shapes and those boxy cars of the model t age had a great street presence.

  4. ah, the memories your painting suggest. Sara's right, a collection of Chicago scenes is something you've already been doing. I see a best seller in your future!
