Bernard

Bernard's been hanging by the State Street bridge for maybe two years now.  A couple days ago he asked me to give him a photo to use for a drawing and I gave him the photo I used for the last of the Big Cats. I think he is doing a good job on it.  When I was painting it I began with the ear which I thought would be the star of the show, but it didn't.  I think he did a better job on it than I did.

  1. It's great. Ask him if he'd like to show at Ten Cat some time! That would be wonderful.

  2. That's the first thing I noticed—he started with the ear, too! It's interesting to see how each of you handles the same reference photo, one in graphite and one in watercolor.

  3. Let's see how the ear fits in as the drawing progresses.

  4. The ear has a very interesting shape in it - that’s where my eye starts. The face captures the quiet majesty.

  5. I went down yesterday (I can see him from my balcony) and went down to see how the drawing was coming along, and he had already finished it and he had given it away, so I guess I won't know how it came out. He did say however that he was going to do another drawing from that same image.

I had some idea of seeing if he could do all eight big cats, or most of them and get them into the Ten Cat, but it seems way too complicated.
