So I liked those four paint-centric paintings well enough, but they just weren't big enough. I didn't think I had enough ooomph in me to use the same method for an 18x24. I had vague ideas of maybe quartering the paper and have each quarter relate to its neighbor, but that just wasn't working. What I needed was some kind of skeleton to hang the paint on.
So I chose these um, protozoas. Not sure where I am going next but I have some ideas.
Here is a closeup of the protozoa because I don't think the photo of the whole thing shows up enough detail. That's sepia because I love the way it forms edges as it dries. Also burnt yellow, firetruck red, and indigo.
By now, I know enough to wait for this to play out to a finished painting, but.... I think you may be overthinking things! The beauty of the last series was the spontaneous non-representational progression; now you're starting with a "thing" and a style. But again, what do I know? Let the protozoa begin!
ReplyDeleteOne more thing.... you don't need oomph to take the last method to a larger painting. All you need is a bigger brush. I'll let you borrow one of mine!

DeleteThe protozoa are spontaneous, and stuff will spontaneously spring from them. I did use a little bigger brush, but I want to have little details which requires a small brush. And what is with this overthinking accusation? I never think long and I never think twice. And you know I can and will change my mind at the drop of a hat.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I never meant to accuse you of thinking! I just worry about the difference between hanging a painting on a structure and trapping it in a box. I'm sure you'll pull this off!
