Too Many White Bowls
This still life is an attempt to capture my daughter’s kitchen counter on Christmas. In the foreground are the lychee…they have the most beautiful inedible skin which looks like velvet. Not able to capture that. A lotta bowls, a lotta fruit. Can u find the bananas? And why did I keep the humidifier? Because it was blue!

I've been listening to Joni Mitchell lately and that painting has a strong Chelsea Morning vibe.
ReplyDeleteI just read a short bio on Joni. She got polio and was in a facility being treated. There, at age 9, she took up smoking! And continued to smoke 3+ packs a day for most of her life.
DeleteYou can never have too many white bowls! I really like this, Greeta. Especially the shadows and the highlights on the blue humidifier. I'm glad you kept that in.
ReplyDeleteAnd the white bowls are all perfectly shaped and shadowed too.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you’ve painted the white bowls and the little oranges. I’m amazed that nobody has mentioned the tremendous job you did on the avocado. You don’t see them everyday.
ReplyDeleteThe white bowls tie it altogether! I like seeing parts of them and they certainly offset the bright fruit colors. And they are so beautifully drawn — not as easy skill, as I can testify….
