The Square House Two

Just about done with it.  Wanted the sky to be minimal, but maybe it's too minimal.  Do I dare to visit the cobalt blue side of the pallet?

  1. I like the sky the way it is. Imo, the buildings could use a lot more texture and shading. That giant evergreen draws all the focus. It’s just a big blob of boring green. I know that you can do a lot more with it.

  2. I like it--it feels like a sunny day in France or Italy. You might dip into the cobalt, just to give the sky more presence, but I wouldn't take it to storm status. I wish there was more of a sky or foreground, or both. For some reason, I feel that house should be tucked into the landscape. I also have to agree with Alan that the dark green tree is so prominent, it's battling with the house for star of the show. Maybe just add more of that color or value elsewhere in the foreground?

  3. Yeah, that tree is smack dab in the middle of the page and the darkest thing in the painting. My questions would be what about the original Seurat drawing attracted you. And how are you using those elements in your rendition? Was it composition, value, scale, placement, movement? Whatever. What are you trying to achieve here? Why are the houses the same exact color/value as the ground? It looks as though the most energy was spent on differentiating grass blades.

  4. This is very tame for you imho. I agree that big house needs some texture or color or something to stand up to the foliage. And the sky needs to carry more weight too. I do like the sense of distance you created…
