SS: Live Model Exercise Shown

St. Greg Cultural Center has introduced a once a month, Saturday afternoon figure drawing class at the 3rd floor of Parish Center, managed by new artist in residence: Sara Crow. The hitch: 3rd floor, no elevator & models are " clothed", lots of fabrics, no nudes. Any media @ $5 per artist! Shown are 2 figure drawing exercises: one 10 minute & one 1 hour! Strangely, the shorter exercise has more drama in its simplicity!

  1. When I was taking a figure drawing class at the Cultural Center we used to warm up by doing five and ten minute sketches and I always enjoyed them because it made me concentrate on what was really important in the image and the lack of time also made me more spontaneous. An idea for a class exercise. Everybody is given an image they have never seen before and given five or ten minutes. Or how about you can look at the image for a minute or two and then it is taken away and you have five minutes. Sound like fun gang?

  2. Susan, you're right about the five minute sketch catching more of the model's essence. That is lovely!
Ken, I like the idea of the warm up/quick sketch. Even if we don't do it as a group, I think I might try it myself. It would make us see what's essential and what's just decorative. Good idea!
