June 22, 2024 — Elaine O.

Working away, slowly but surely, on this portrait. I know it's hard to tell what's happening from the pencil sketch, but, as bits of background go in, we can narrow down the options. No, it's not a founding father; no, Hamilton isn't back in town; no, it's not Napoleon. It's Dave in Paris, looking very continental indeed.

  1. Paint the scarf alizarin crimson and we shall have the return of Aristide.

    1. That's the name of the guy on the poster I was referencing!

  2. Could that be an echo of the red scarf and dark coat behind that excellently painted pink pot?

  3. That dark is rich. You said it’s ultramarine plus transparent or permanent red oxide. Which? Daniel Smith? Hope to get to Blick this week🙄.

    1. I thought I replied. Sorry! It's transparent red oxide and it's from Daniel Smith. It's like burnt sienna but a bit more red. The ultramarine blue is either Daniel Smith or Winsor & Newton. It's the squeezed out end of a tube and I don't know which. I use both. Also not sure if it's French ultramarine blue or just ultramarine blue. Again, I use both.
