Good choices on both--the ultramarine and blurring the circles. I think it gives more of what I saw in your rough sketch. You're good with stories...make up a 50's sci-fi film you can use the first one as a poster for.
That was a dark and stormy night also. I was working late in the lab, when the general's daughter, who I had been casually dating, burst in the door and screamed. "They're here!" "Who?" I asked, To be continued.
It had been a dark and stormy night. The hive swayed in the treetops, buffeted by sheets of water and the lightning flashed as if it would tear the honeycomb asunder. But then the sunrise came up like a warm breast over the horizon, and Anne and Sheila took off along the dark and roiling river towards that big sunflower that rumor had it was just on the other side. And just around the bend there it was. They took their sweet time filling up their sweet sacs because they knew no pesky humans would bother them because of course, the Martians had killed all of them.
Yar, they'll tell you a picture is worth a thousand words, but really it's only 37 words and none of them very long, so you might as well write them out. For example Exotic Lilly was having a splendid morning until that jerk put that notanizer on her. The next time she sees him she is going to give him such a slap.
You made the right decision…
