Here’s a well cropped photo of my latest painting, Ode to Spring. It doesn’t even look like my painting imo. Yes the forsythia bush is painted with gouache. Those green bushes in the foreground need to be darker or something. They’re stealing my attention from the forsythia bush. This is the only time of the year I like this plant…after it blooms I cut it down to the ground…maybe the bushes need to be smaller…the forsythia is like 7 feet tall but you don’t really get that….proportion…it’s always something!
I’m working up to a painting of Quinn. I’m not showing the photo b/c it’s so beautiful that you would say, don’t even try Sara, just print the photo and frame it….the drawing is closer than the painted sketch, but the painted sketch captures her expression better…I’m off for a couple of Saturdays, but back for the last class….don’t have too much fun without me….
That first painting is lovely. The gouache doesn't stick out as an odd element. The composition is great—I love the way the forsythia glows and how it fills the frame on a single layer. Maybe the bushes don't need to be darker, but less textured. Quinn looks so sweet in your drawing. Can't wait to see the painting. Have fun—we'll miss you.
ReplyDeleteTis indeed a sprig of spring bursting out of the earth in front of the automobiles. I wonder about expressing the expression. If it's not in the photo than how do you know what it is. If it is just in your imagination will you have to swish around paint until it appears? Not that there is anything wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, right now the big bad bushes seem to be ganging up on the forsythia. I luv the cars in the background. Maybe trim down those bad boys or lighten then up, they're trying to steal the scene. Both Quinns are unique in their own ways. Just keep going. Don't have too much fun without us. See you at the end of class.
