This is a house/church that fascinated me last autumn. It looks like a small town church, but what really caught my eye was the sun lighting up part of the bush, while everything else was in shadow. There's still some work to be done.

Also, this is the last of the masking fluid—just until I buy more. It's all
gloopy, which affects the line quality. As a side note, I see in some art catalogs that masking fluid is already being sold in needle nose bottles—and for the exact benefits I wanted. The reviews mention clogging and drying out—the exact problems I had. I guess there are no new ideas after all!
I don't see the shadows, did you not put them in yet? But that church in the full sunshine with that bright blue sky behind it. It's enough to make a believer out of me. Give me a hymnal and hear me roar.
ReplyDeleteI'm still darkening the shadows, but I'm not sure I'm getting the effect of the sun on that red bush.I may have to try again!
DeleteIs the masque still on your painting or did you remove it? What happens when you remove it ?
ReplyDeleteThe mask is still on. Once it comes off, we just see the white of the paper.
DeleteThis is a cool composition, but maybe the shadows on the building need to be darker. I like the mask on the fence and building. But not quite sure which bush is lit up — it’s a value issue….
ReplyDeleteYou're so right about it being a value issue! I got intrigued by color instead and forgot to consider the value on the sunlit bush! I'm still darkening the building shadows but the bush may just be a "learning experience".
DeleteWhatever it is, it's electrifying!
