Another addition to my Masterpiece Archive (the plastic shelving in my bedroom. Did indigo and turquoise for the sky. I think it looks better in person. The road I tried to give it a bit of a golden glow but other than that left it to itself.

The barn is done and on to the haunted house.

I like the sky treatment, but this painting is not done. The one rule of composition is never make any two intervals the same. The barn and the road are like twins….
ReplyDeleteYou know Euclid, he did excellent work, but there is something noticeably different about the fifth axiom. It's wordy and complicated and has none of the elegance and grace of the first five.
Deleteif a straight line falling on two straight lines make the interior angles on the same side less than two right angles, the two straight lines, if produced indefinitely, meet on that side on which the angles are less than two right angles.
I mean come on. All this to say that from a point outside a line only one line parallel to the first line can be extended. And it does turn out that you can have a consistent geometry wherein no parallel lines can be drawn through that point and also another geometry where an infinite amount can be drawn. They don't describe the reality of a flat plane, but the first works for convex surfaces like a balloon and the second works for concave surfaces.
And I like to think that there are more than one rule of composition. And I think there can be another rule of composition where you can have two intervals the same, but maybe not three. Or maybe you can have an even number of intervals but never an odd number. Let a thousand flowers bloom.
Did you run out of colors?
ReplyDeleteI like the sky and the grass alot. I'm even okay with the road but I'm not sure about that barn. It feels a bit unfinished to me. I don't know if it's the barn itself, or how it's positioned, or the edges where it nestles into the landscape...something about that barn feels different than the rest of the painting.
ReplyDeleteWouldn’t the barn cast a shadow on the road? And wouldn’t that add interest to the road?
ReplyDeleteBeen there and seen that. Love the corn and the sky. Never seen a barn that looked like that but can’t say you have not. I don’t know what the sides are supposed to be but I don’t recognize them from my barn memories. I don’t have a problem with the amount of road but the ruts should be vertical-I don’t know what those horizontal marks are.
