Not my jam, but this is Chloe’s first house and her mom is an old friend and asked me to paint it. It still has a lot of masque on it, the side shadow is probably too dark, but I kind of like that left tree…House portraits are sort of like human portraits but with more landscaping….
Here’s a flower portrait that’s more my jam…haven’t done anything to it since class, but not sure what I should do. Suggestions welcome since I gave quite a few in my comments!!
I think those amarilyi are just fine the way they are. The house could use a more monumental look, maybe if it was darker or had a darker background. That shadow bothers me. It has a hard edge.
ReplyDeleteI like the composition on that house! And I don't know if the shadow will be too dark once you remove the masking fluid. The white trim might make the house color darker and the shadow will fit right in. I think you might want to add some darker values overall, but the blue color of the mask makes it hard to gauge where or how dark. As for amaryllis, I like the viewpoint you've chosen and the colors and am intrigued (in a good way) by that square of light. I can't think of anything more you need to do to it.
ReplyDeleteSome shadows have a hard edge-back to beginning watercolor. I’m thinking that this is just the first layer with many layers to go. IGood start. I would take some value out of the petals so they would have more depth.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the house looks like a good beginning, but not quite finished. And next to the flowers, it just fades away. So as others have suggested, more dark values. I like the odd composition and viewpoint of the amaryllis especially with that white light.
ReplyDeleteFor once I agree with Uncle Ken…shadow edge too sharp …even though it is in real life. Like it overall.
ReplyDeleteShadows under petals and leaves? Love the perspective and the red.
Oh and shadows under eaves and windows of house?
