One done, one started.
I am calling this done. Some in the class thought that there should be something more going on in the upper left hand corner, but of course they were mistaken.
This started out as a closeup of a painting of a tomato flower but now it is looking more like a hot air balloon in a tornado, but there is a long way to go yet.

I like the vase, the flowers, the dresser, the background. And the way the blurred background on the left merges into the detailed part on the right. The tablecloth ??Why black & white right up front? And the vase would slide off the table…but that’s OK. Cezanne and Matisse were known for doing that. And youve always hated leaving white.
ReplyDeleteThe background on the Vuillard inspired still life is so rich—I really like it. I am on the team that wants a shadow under the vase and different shaping to the upper left shadow, but as a Cubs fan, I've learned to live with disappointment. By adding the scallops back to the top of the center shape, you've lost the hot air balloon vibe. Interested to see how this comes out....maybe a psychedelic plant series with the sunflower?
ReplyDeletePut your two fingers over that upper left hand side of the painting and you’ll see how much better it looks without that empty space attracting all the attention. This is a painting about patterns and Vuillard left no corner unpatterned… the second painting reminds me of the beginning of The Outer Limits, very hypnotic…
