Annie in sepia and white

I picked a familiar image to continue my sepia studies.  I've probably painted from this image twenty times,  The sepia went down well, soft, silky, and sooty.  And for me it is all about the paint, not the image.

  1. Do you mean it’s all about the experience of painting or the actual paint? Either way, I guess you don’t need an image to paint from — you could go totally abstract. Or just paint lines or little squares…

    1. The experience of splashing down the sepia is much like that I enjoyed walking in a puddle when I was a kid. But for me the important thing is how the paint looks on the paper itself and not how it relates to the image that inspired it or to any object in the real world. But of course it is more complicated that that. I believe there are still some empty seats for my upcoming seminar and I would be happy to reserve you a seat.

  2. Good to see Annie again. I'm really liking your exploration of values. It should be interesting to see what happens when you go back to your use of vibrant color. As for the comment about being about the paint and not the image.... I'm not going to go there!
