New semester

I did a watercolor on canvas of Montrose Harbor as seen from the golf course. I kind of liked the texture of it.

This is a value drawing (and I don’t do value drawings) of a bucolic scene somewhere in the Midwest. Probably taken from my car

And this is the beginning of a Yupo version. We’ll see what happens

  1. I like the texture of the canvas, too, as well as the colors and textures. So sophisticated. Looking forward to the Yupo painting. And I'm really seeing the value in value paintings!

  2. Love the Montrose Harbor scene especially the way you painted the rocks and trees. I’ve started doing value sketches too, but I have a hard time separating value from color in painting….

  3. That harbor is so good I thought you did it on yupo before I read that you didn't. Like the blue and the yellow in the trees.

  4. The watercolor on canvas is really something. I, too, thought it was on yupo at first. Beautifully executed. Why don't you like value drawings? And why did you do one then? Maybe if done with paint? The yupo version already looks interesting.

    1. I’m too impatient. I did this one because there’s so much white I was trying to identify any dark I could find. I’ve always liked drawing with graphite, but I want to get to the paint as soon as possible.

  5. Did you gesso the canvas or treat it with anything first? Or treat it with anything after?

  6. I gessoed the canvass first. I’m thinking of gessoing, then doing a rough drawing on that, and then gessoing certain shapes and textures on the canvas, and then painting on top of that. The textures should come thru the paint.
