Rockies Redux Hockney

When I saw the Hockney inspiration painting this morning.  I felt I have done the same layers of foreground, middle ground & background plus the pine trees. Thanks Sara for noticing unintentional similarity! So here goes, I dug up the 2017 Rockies watercolor! Happy painting, fellow artists! Am still trying to have confidence in blog posting!

  1. Is this a re-do of the 2017 painting? If so, I can see how the pencil sketches may be influencing you. The line work on this is more distinct. I particularly like the lines on the trees and the edges on the mountains, with the contrast of the soft river.

  2. This is the original 2017 watercolor of Peyto Lake at Alberta.I noticed that my Rockies paintings have lots of line work too! That's why when I saw the inspiration Hockney I just felt I have done something like that. Anyway I am still busy at the dining table with my Kitchen Quartet project amidst laundry, plumbing woes & baked ribs!

  3. Yes, you have the same freshness of color and bold shapes like Hockney. He works a little bigger tho. I remember seeing these huge tree paintings of his in the lobby of the 3 Arts Club once. Each painting was made up of six or eight 5 x 7 foot panels. It was like being in a forest...you should try bigger paintings too! Your subject matter almost demands it...

  4. Someday I will try to bring you the forest. BTW, the surname Silvano means green forest!

  5. Who knew? I wonder what Otto means? Your painting is so serene and soothing with the colors you chose to use.
