One Oldie and One Unfinished

Direct Watercolor from a class set-up. So loose I can’t recognize what flowers were painted.

Maybe because I’ve painted this scene before or know what I could do to it, not inspired to work on it.

  1. I'm noticing--and liking--the autumn color theme. Those first flowers feel like tulips, but no matter. The color blending is lovely, especially in the shadows. I totally understand losing inspiration at the middle stage of a painting, but those pumpkins in the garden have so much promise. All you need are the finishing touches--and don't lose that stream of light!

  2. I love the looseness of the direct watercolor. The shadows are beautifully painted, as are the flowers. As for the second one, just go ahead and ruin the painting! That’s the attitude I take when I’m stuck or bored by a painting. I rub stuff out, use different media, add things that aren’t in the source image, etc. If you’ve already painted this scene before, you might as well do something different….

  3. It doesn't matter what the flowers are, they're lovely how you've painted them - shape, color, value, etc. The glass vase is magnificent and the so are the delicate shadows. The colors and movement of the leaves. Just great. You've got some good things going in the outdoor scene. Just keep at it. I always say, as Sara mentioned, when you're stuck, just let it all go and ruin it.

  4. Yes to the orange flowers, no to the mystery ones.
