Finished the marbles....
...and started this painting of my last roses of last summer.
I've also been doing some direct watercolor sketches of people. Again, finished one...
...and started another.
All are sketchbook sized (8"x6") except the flowers. They are 12" x 9".
Don’t know what that orange and purple blob is (maybe just a shape). Love the addition of air bubbles on the clear “purie”, as we called them in Michigan. I think it will be hard to darken the background but the clear vase should make it effective.
ReplyDeleteI am envious of your portraits with direct watercolor techniques. I know that you must have a solid idea of skull structure to do this but your energetic application if pigments make it. You should teach us all how to do this.
Love how the leaf shapes define the vase. That still life is almost perfect as is. And yes, teach us how to pay portraits directly with such confidence! Do you always use the same colors for skin tones?
ReplyDeleteI use pretty much the same colors for just about everyone. The yellow is usually yellow ochre and the blue is usually cobalt or ultramarine. The red is either vermillion or rose--depending on the skin cast. Sometimes I vary the colors, but those are my go-to colors.
DeletePuny Earth being bullied by Jupiter and Saturn. How big, how glassy, how wet, how tactile. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteToo many bumptious roses, not even gracefully curling leaves.
Is that woman giving Dave a come hither look? Is he maybe grinning back just a little too much?
ooo, marbles that are too cool. You are a master at direct watercolor portraits, that's for sure. And David looks just so sweet.
ReplyDeleteLove the direct portraits. So expressive and free. Somehow personal in a way that makes me think I know the people. You should do a video demo.
