These are great! Love the sunlight on #1. #2 may need more work, but don't go too far and lose that feeling of sunlight through the tree canopy. Again, the sunlight in #5 is magical--not to mention the composition. Those horizontal bands feel calm and relaxed. I don't know if #4 is whimsical, but it does have an interesting sky--like it's twilight or just before a storm. It occurs to me that the petals in #3 would look softer and flowier if you left the dark in the middle and lifted the color at the edges.
Like #1 a lot. The vitality of it makes it fun for me. On # 2 the branches are too smooth imo. Pretty slick considering the rest of the work. Throw 3 away and go back to last week’s cornflowers. You’ve done 4 better before and 5 does not tickle me. Appreciate the effort though.
1 and 4 are my favs. I like the combo of the backgrounds and foregrounds. 2 is completely different but I like it too, it does feel like you’re looking up into the canopy. The colors and background patterns in 4 are really nice. It might be time to go bigger, not your usual size but maybe 9x12 or so.
Alright Ken. Moving along. I like the ones that feel free to breathe, like 1 and 4. I remember 2 looking better in person because the tree wasn't so dark and solid. Yeah, the flower doesn't work, it's too heavy, especially with that center and darkly outlined petals. 5 is working on the edge. Almost, but not quite, to regimental.

ReplyDeleteThe first one would be very well suited to a large format effectively expressing sun and wind.
