Alan Fall 5

Done with this.  Into the files it goes.

Also done with this Yupo painting. I smoothed out some of the really dark colors. I’ll spray some fixative on it to give it more pop.

I think I’m done with my bookstore painting. It’s 12 X 14 on Rough.

This is 12 X 14 on Arches Rough. It’s a little impressionistic painting of the cottage we usually rent in Mississippi.

There is a lot more work to do but I like the start. It needs darker values. I’ve tried to paint this many times before but I never got one I liked.

  1. The bookstore is easily the star of the show. Great values! I think the last one is heading in the same direction and it's going to be good. Great greens--and that framing branch has such a great shape. I like the way the Yupo painting turned out. And, if it ever comes out of the files and you're feeling adventurous, I'd try a darker glaze over the background of the first one.

  2. Well you know it looks like that red lamp is balanced precariously on the right back of the rocking chair, and I can't make out the Rothko signature on that painting on the wall, and well maybe it's too dark.

I see rightward movement in the yupo, like the glory of autumn is making a doughty but doomed parade south to avoid the frozen jackboot of Old Man winter.

The one time bookstore is fabulous. Those deep shadows, those turbulent cumulus trees, and the pleasant proportions.

I believe I have seen that bough at the top before.

  3. I just noticed the mirror reflection in the cabin interior painting. Nicely done! There are a number of thoughtful depictions in that little painting. You’re right — it is a memory! The yupo panting is very contemplative…set off by the fringe of sharp leaves. The bookstore painting is one of your best and it looks like the cottage painting is headed in the same direction!
