Ken asked to see the steps I took to arrive at a final Yupo painting. So here we go——
This is what I saw from my patio:
After I copped and edited it:
First pass getting in colors and shapes.
Second pass adding value:
I think I’m finishing but I don’t like it at all.
Hating the result and realizing I’ve clomped on too much pigment to allow Yupo to do it’s thing I wash off much of the paint in the sink.
Then I go back in and lightly add color and let them blend. Not quite done yet. I’ve got to do something about those dark blue blobs.
Interesting! I like your choice to go back in and desaturate the color. It has more of the feel of the reference.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the extra photos. Interesting process. You know now that I am off my track maybe I should give yupo another try. I know I have some yupes somewhere in my archives. Calling them that because plastic paper sounds so awkward. Yupes not much better though is it?
ReplyDeleteI washed off a painting on 300lb paper and then I went and repainted it almost exactly as it had been before…sometimes your brain won’t let you do anything else…
