November 23, 2024 — Elaine O.

I finished the floral from last week...I think I may have taken it one step too far by adding the shadow on the wall. But I do like the base of the vase.

This sketch skips the flowers and is all about the foliage. Even though it's relatively subdued, I like that splash of color against the gray background.

 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  1. Nice work on the clear glass vase. Clear glass is not easy. There are some wonderful youtube videos on painting glass and some of it is counterintuitive. I like the shape of the bouquet and have no trouble with the shadow and might even make it darker. Wonderful greens in the last one. Grey/Green nice combo.

  2. Comes out of the glass vase like gangbusters but fades a bit out in the open. Those flowers are just too soft, they could use some hard dark, possibly purple edges.

I like the green and the grey. I agree that green and grey are a winning combo.

  3. I like the shadow on the floral but I think it should be darker and on the other side to balance the painting more. But your marks are beautiful in both paintings— reality without being real …or maybe I mean being real without being reality…!

  4. Yeah, put some shadows on the right side of the flowers to balance the painting out (they can be on both sides, can't they?) The flowers, greens and vase look great. And I like that dark band of shadow along the left side. So unexpected. The green plants in the marble pot is fabulously painted.
