Loved doing the yellow backgrounds in the first two. I don't subscribe to that less is more theory, but 3 caught my eye and I don't want change anything. Maybe that reddish splotch in the lower left. I had a lot of fun with the green background in 4, but what was I thinking of with those bar clouds? But hey, it's yupo, I can just wash them away.

Ken, these are magnificent! You are using the surface well to get such rich deep paintings. I like the first three a lot. I agree with you about the bar clouds--they shouldn't be going in that direction, but, as you say, you can wipe them out and bring the sky up to the level of the foreground and midground (which are beautiful!). I think you're on to something here.
ReplyDeleteAre these still tiny 4x5 or 6x8s?really love the contrast between light and dark in #1. It’s like a stained glass window…#3 is oddly attractive because of the brushstrokes, but if it’s tiny, who can see that? I like the barclouds in #4…in fact I’d like to see a little regimentation in the lower third as well…
ReplyDeleteThe bar clouds don’t bother me at all. Did you let the vertical lines run or did you paint them? I like the second one the best.
ReplyDeleteI painted them. I am still learning the basics of yupo.
