This was started on my last day at Truman. At first, it seemed like painting while standing (sitting was impossible) would be freeing and I’d be loose but loose turned to heavy. Pretending to be an oil painter didn’t work … happy to be done with it.

ooo, I think it looks interesting, Greeta. I remember when you started it in class. It is dark, but it's mysterious and that blue chair looks like it's just waiting for someone to sit on it. I like it. Keep on painting.
ReplyDeleteGreeta, I don't think this looks heavy at all. It feels deep and rich. I like the contrast between the edges in the foreground and the distance--and despite everything else that's going on, the chair holds its own as a focal point. There's a story here and I want to step into this scene.
ReplyDeleteI like parts of it, mostly the more abstract parts but the whole thing does not fit together for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting painting. The bottom half from the chair down is wonderful. The grasses, the chair and stone floor all work. IMO the nongreen background, meaning the dark wall needs to be darker. Even a dark wash over the greenery in the back would help throw the focus forward. It’s somewhat ironic that you can’t sit down while painting a chair…!
ReplyDeleteI think more of that rich blue of the upper left should be on that back wall too. Maybe just a hint of it.
