Obligatory Pears

I’ve been told that every artist (if I can call myself an artist) must paint a pear so I did that. Now I can continue on to other things. One is on stretched canvas coated with gesso and the other one is on Yupo. Guess.

I liked the way the different media handled the wood grain. Boy are these two different using the exact same drawing.

  1. I had no idea about the mandatory pear painting. While they both look good, Yupo does make you paint more glowingly. I like the overhead view you've chosen.

  2. I didn't know that was a rule; I mangled some pears earlier in my career, though, and remember others painting pears too, so it must be true. Seriously, I find wood difficult and I'm enamored of the way you handled it, especially in the Yupo version. You truly are the Yupo man!

    1. Yeah. The wood grain was really fun and completely different technique for the different mediums.

  3. It’s true - I have 4 pear paintings by different artists hanging in my kitchen. Actually, I’m more impressed by your wood grain treatment and the plate calligraphy in both paintings. But the bottom painting wins my heart - those pears just glow!

  4. Me too. I looked at the first two pears and I thought pretty good and then I looked at the second pair of pears and even better.
