I’ve been painting these since October. They’re all sketchbook studies, 7x10, all based on a couple of images below. They’re not quite in order; I’m still working on the 4th one and it still has mask on the limbs. They’re interesting to see altogether —at least I think so! I was always drawn to the knot of limbs all going in different directions, plus the color of the leaves and the slight corona of the setting sun. I’m not sure any one captures all those things. They’re all very different but they all emphasize the knot of limbs. Here’s my source photo below.
Oh, this is an earlier version of #2…I really liked it but I went too far with the color mixing and thus too muddy …

Darn! I lost my comment. Let's see if I can remember what I said—Basically, I love your tree series. I can see that they all come from the same reference, but they are all so different. It's great the way the branches and foliage explode from that knot. The most exuberant of the paintings look like fireworks, but even the most sedate paintings are active and interesting. I can't decide if I prefer with the frame or without —I am leaning towards "with" as it has more depth. Oh, and I love the colors of your stained glass hanging!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely——frame. I really like the second one and the fourth one (I think I’ve got them tagged right). The sixth one explains a lot but is my least favorite. And…. I’m looking forward to seeing you finish the last one through the window.
