WIPs…or maybe they’re done…
This little lady is done for sure although the background looks a little blotchy. This was a double challenge: a baby in a cream colored outfit!
This one is pretty much done too. I’m not crazy about the cropping at the top. I might try this again with more of the window showing at the top.
This is a backyard snow scene I just started. The green and red makes it kind of Xmas-y. It’s actually just the sun hitting the leaves of my rose bush in the foreground and the rest is in shadow. The leaves are covered with masking fluid right now…Well it’s cold and snowy out…good day to stay home and paint!

Yes, that baby is done! She's got a lovely smile and the way her fist is pulling at the corner of her mouth is spot on. I like the three soft colors surrounding that cream outfit. I'm not bothered by blotchiness at the top, but the color seems too neutral. Maybe if it went more blue to echo the bottom or more cream to extend the baby's clothes? I'm not sure, actually, so don't take anything too seriously. What I like the best about the middle painting are the pencil marks. You can see your thought process, where you put an object in, then moved it. It's like when museum restorers xray famous paintings and you can see what the artist was thinking. I think I'm going to love the snow scene. I already love the colors, the concept and the composition. It can only get better!
ReplyDeleteBlack eyed Susan(?)
ReplyDeleteIs the sun shining through the vines or being reflected off of them? Just doesn't seem bright enough to cast those sharply defined shadows.
I am excited about the third one. So dramatic.
Adding darker values within the ivy really helped this painting. I think the composition is too linear but that’s a consideration for another day.
ReplyDeleteNice job with all the cloth.
Interested to see how you finish the snow scene.
