Thought I would be done, but I don’t like it. Problem with the yellow leaf swath. I’m looking for inspiration about how to fix it. Otherwise I’ll just start over. But I’m not really sure about why it went off the rails in the first place.
The yellow maple was what I liked most about it. The rest is fluff.

That yellow swath is too uniform you need deeper texture. I heartily endorse dit dit dit, but then what do I know about trees anyway.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound strange, but I think the yellow foliage seems to be moving horizontally. All the deeper values are linear and horizontal, while the green and orange foliage is more broken up and feels vertical. Alternately, maybe there needs to be more breaking up by way of sky holes or vertical twigs? Right now, I can almost see a yellow ghost flying towards the houses. But I really like autumn foliage scenes and this one has real promise, so I think it's worth saving.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elaine, that the middle yellow mass seems to be moving horizontally. The top yellow leaves are nicely done; they look attached to the and blown by the wind.
ReplyDelete…they look attached to the branches…
ReplyDeleteThe bush in the right hand corner is nicely done too. Paint the yellow mass the way you painted the mass of orange leaves on the left, breaking up the brushstrokes more.
