The value studies using only burnt umber may be my most rewarding experiences in watercolor. Something happens when I don’t have to make color decisions.
Happy with this. There are plenty of errors, but his expression tells me who is there, and and painting him I was there with him.

This portrait is lovely. The brush strokes give it a liveliness and the values are spot on. Like they say: color gets all the credit and values do all the work…
ReplyDeleteYou're right to be happy with this. It's beautifully painted. Seems like concentrating on the values instead of color lets you get to the essence of the person without getting unnecessarily distracted. At any rate, this is a great portrait.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great portrait
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of this also. If you go monochrome that is a great color to do it with. What is that guy up to? I'm thinking like a WW II bomber pilot or arctic, or Antarctic explorer.
