These are two Linears (calling them that because they start with strong lines and go out from there).  The bottom is the one I forgot to bring to class, and the top is one that I did just this morning, Thinking of maybe calling it done at this point.  Both 9x12.

The middle two are croci breaking through the frozen crust, which I may do more of as they continue their growth, and the second two are works in progress.  They are all 5x7.

  1. The top painting looks unresolved. It needs more. I like the four smaller ones, particularly the first two. I like the denseness of no. 2. No. 1 reminds me of girls ice skating.

  2. I like the linears, especially that first one; it feels like flying over a winter landscape. Same for the first of the small ones. It puts you in a place. I'm looking out a car window at night, driving down a snowy road in a blizzard. I can just feel myself hunched over and gripping the wheel while I strain to see beyond the headlights. I like the first crocus painting better than the second and that last one is nowhere near as good on screen as in real life, where the colors, details and blends really shine.

    1. looking out a car window at night, driving down a snowy road in a blizzard. You have a lot of that in your painting. Instead of forcing it back into the photo go for the wildness. With mine I was going to put darker paint into the foreground, but I rather liked it. I can paint another one like it and try to integrate intricate hard dark shapes, but for now I thought I can let this one be.
