Sips…
Ghost children…I’m painting this on hot press, big, maybe 11x14…it’s just a different way of painting, but I’ve got to use up this paper!
Two small sketches, one finished, the other not.i think the top composition (Unfinished) is better, but i like the window view better in the bottom one.
The photo I’m working from is from the late 1970s —when everyone still drove bigass cars and no one believed in sunscreen. These are some bronzed bods that need more burnt sienna!

The post title should be Wips, not Sips!
ReplyDeleteI'm really noticing the color differences between real life and on screen. All of these are much less vibrant and saturated than reality. Anyway, the kids are coming along nicely (and hot press paper is hard); you've absolutely got him sulking in the shade with sunlit woods all around. Now you just have to get her, too. Your Coppertone couple looks great. You have the feel of two different skin tones when they're overexposed to the sun—and the composition is spot on. I agree with your assessment of the interiors. The addition of the second chair and the door makes it cozier and less "Hopper-ish" somehow. The views out the window are so close—maybe the first one just needs more contrast between inside and outside.
ReplyDeleteLove the guy with the toothy grin. I wouldn’t touch him, but I probably would because I don’t know when to stop. Don’t know what those jelly beans are and I can’t quite explain the reflection of the window on the table top. Top one looks right to me but I’d have to see it in real life.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, what Elaine said.
I like the kids, and the trees, and the style of the painting. Something scandalous, like 50's Hollywood stars both of them cheating on their spouses, and not seeming too worried about it. I like the neighbor's attic peaking into your house, but those flowers are too small and they don't pop. Maybe if they were closer to the viewer and therefore bigger they might be poppier.
