Unhappy campers et al…
I’ve been painting from a stack of old photos I found - possible source material that doesn’t totally engage me, but maybe it does….So I’ve just been painting from them in my sketchbooks, trying to increase my paint to water ratio. I don’t think I paint intense enough. But then I also like to scrub out and paint over and a lot of these sketchbooks can’t take the abuse. Maybe I’ll attempt the kids in the forest on better paper. Below is my final tree. I think the window framing is a little too dark.

Ah, procrastination as an incentive! Works for me, too. Anyway, there are some gems here. Love the unhappy campers against the bucolic greenery. I agree about the kids in the forest and also can see the people resting on the rock, the view out the window and the landscape with the crisp shadows as finished "good paper" paintings. I don't think the frame is too dark at all—you've got some different values and I like the solidity against the fractured color in the tree. Keep avoiding that attic—it's working well for you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is the setting of the second one. I also don’t think the frame is too dark. The tree might look too organic - like the intestines of an animal - or heart and lungs. It’s an interesting idea.
ReplyDeleteAnd you’ve definitely captured the unhappiness of the campers.
Not only are you kids not getting any candy, you're riding back in the trunk so we don't have to look at you.
ReplyDeleteKings of the hill. I like that guy with no face looking back at us.
Awaiting Godzilla.
Didn't you do this one earlier? I remember the lake in the background. Sunday, middle of June, about 3 pm.
Tuesday, late October, 10 am.
The last tree? I don't think so.
