January 26, 2026 — Elaine O.

I'm so closed to finished! As a color study, it was interesting to see the difference the darker background made. I haven't quite got the joy in their smiles—or even a great likeness—but at this size, the faces are so small that it's hard. I will finish this, as you always learn something, and try again, but larger.

  1. I love the candid unposed subjects here. They look pretty joyous to me.

  2. This looks great! Love the blue of his suit against the terracotta walls. And her flower bouquet really draws you in to focus on the happy couple. If you’re painting it again, I might move that top window slightly left so both faces are framed by the walls…it somewhat distracts from his face.

  3. Love the blue suit. Thinking of the painting of the guy on the el and one of a street, I think near your home, where the only blue is this one guy kind of in the background.

expressions check. Bouquet check. Wood is a little messy.

  4. The flowers are my favorite thing. The outfits are nice too. Although it’s nice to have a sense of place, you don’t really need the trappings of the church. I would just make it a generalized color or colors. This is something I don’t do enough.
