Snow day painting….

Here’s the quick and dirty baby version, 5x7

Here’s the grownup version, 8x10, but I don’t think it works as well. Maybe it’s that couch saying stop, don’t enter here…

These two I painted freehand, drawing with a brush. I kind of like the looser style, more brushstrokes, etc. Certainly frees me up from the painting inside the lines. Ok, she looks a little Winston Churchill-y, but babies kind of do…

And who gave the tube of burnt yellow? That color has invaded my whole palette..

I hope we get a foot of snow…I love a reason to stay home…

  1. What I love the most about the little 5x7s is that glare of sunlight across the paintings and pillow, especially the second one. So warm and cozy. The big one feels colder, like you're standing in the middle of the room and checking out the frost and snow outside. Different feelings, but both work as they make you feel something. Claire has such a cute expression—and it looks like she's got wings. Both of the last two are direct? I'm so impressed!

  2. I like the second one capturing so many objects without confusion. And yep…claire has wings although kinda pointy.

  3. Too dingy.

Just right, and I like the way that lampshade spins into the spotlight.

Nice, good depth through the window, and like the way the drapes hang and that bold thin little lamp.

    Does that kid have wings.

  4. She is angel, but those wings are actually Grma’s shoe and sock covered foot. She’s sitting between my legs, looking up at me and thinking “you are the best and smartest grandma in the world…”

  5. I really like all of these. When you understand what the wings really are, it puts on a whole new perspective for me, and I like it.
