Fall into winter…

Another view of my backyard birch tree, this time thru the window. It had so many interesting colors this year, a dirty yellow, bright orange and red, some purple, all with the white branches peeking thru. This is just a beginning layer; the blue is the mask fluid.

And we jump right into winter! The sun caught a few remaining leaves on my rose bush while most of the scene is in blue shadows. I really like this so far, altho the shadows need to be deeper and I haven’t really painted the leaves yet, just rubbed off the mask.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

  1. Wow! I see what you mean about onscreen images not matching the real thing. Both of your paintings are much more lively, rich and saturated in person. Even so, they look good here. Your birch tree is just the loveliest explosion of colors and the snow scene really captures the feel of the day after the snow, when the snow sparkles in the light and there's a quiet all around. Can't wait to see these finished!

  2. I like the splash against the glass held back by the delicate but solid window framing. In the other one I like the way that sunlit leaves and the meeting of the fences come together under the nose of the snow on the fences but I am confused by the that orange brown stuff below the snow and over the meeting of fences.

  3. Love the feel of the snow scene. That corner feels really real to me-like I’ve been there. Great example of shapes not things.
We’ll wait on the window painting but the window frame itself is right on.
