December 28, 2025 — Elaine O.

All the best of the season to you! I don't have anything great to show, but I wanted to post something—if only to prove that I'm still around. I've done some direct watercolor (and ink) sketches to refresh portrait painting skills. Believe me, that baby is so much cuter than you'd guess from these!

And I've done some value/color sketches for a painting.

Other than that, I've been busy shoveling snow...

... trying to get an old car running (it wasn't the oil after all!)...

... and baking cookies. This is all that was left at the end of day one! I had to do multiple days and again, they tasted better than you'd guess from the sketch!

Happy holidays and see you next year!

  1. That kid on the right, I have to ask is that the great grandson that I never had? I like the very young old master who is fuzzy whereas the Work of Art is linear and so are his hands which created them the way, you know, our thoughts are waves and our works are particles. Or are they? I suggest a trip to the tea house.

A snow globe of just after the snowstorm when the sun breaks out and paints the world bright white. I love the easy shapes and colors of the shadows and the brightness of the branches against the sky, and the way the snow appears a bit like it is crushing those cars. Looks like wet snow and it will stick a bit when you take a shovel to it. But it will be a pleasure digging it out on that bright day. Or maybe not. I haven't dug a car out in like fifty years.

  2. I like the sketches like Ken suggests but I love the snow scene. It’s like something told you to stop. And you did. I would be tempted to “finish” it and ruin it but you didn’t. More power to you.

  3. Wonderful work! Love the boy in the Santa hat and the baby. Your snow scene —just 2 colors? It has the immediacy of being outside and shoveling and you just stop and admire how beautiful snow makes the world!
