Home Art….

I have a lot of time on my hands, now that I’m off the serious drugs…These are two small sketches done with Pitt brush pens, which I don’t really like because they don’t blend well. And they’re not really brushes but hard tip markers. I read that people use them with water but they dry really fast and the whole reason to use markers is so you don’t have to use brushes, but whatever. The first is Joe sitting in the back yard with the morning sun coming in but I called it an homage to David Hockney cause it reminds of his Nicolas Canyon painting — I have the poster of it. The second one is draw what you see….

  1. I knew I posted a comment but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, that first one really does have a Nichols Canyon feel. I like your choice to leave Joe and the garage facade white. It balances the riot of color and texture elsewhere. That walker sketch is a gem. The lines and angles in the walker sketch give it such energy. The roudn wheels and the pops of color against the neutrals are a great counterpoint. And, as a sidenote, the vents on the radiator are perfectly complemented by the holes for the coil binding. Couldn't have planned that better!

  2. I like both of them. I was just at the Art Institute and I see a lot of DeChirco in the first one. But where is the cannon, the clock, and the distant train? Nice integration of paint and ink on the second one, and even though it is a complex structure I can see it clearly.
