Two things to show this week. First, I've finished this and I'm happy with it. I like the play of light on his face and the tree. It just feels like a lazy, sunny summer day—and he's got green reflected light on his face without looking sick.

Then there's this one. Right now, I'm playing in my sketchbook, trying to figure out the story I want to tell. I was originally drawn to the vibrant colors in the crisp autumn sunlight. Then, there's the security guard watching his phone instead of the open door (although, to be fair, he was actually alert and not just lounging around). In the end, I may have a couple of different paintings.

I’d be happy with it too. The face is such a nice portrait. Also love the tree bark as well as the few defined leaves against the leaf wash in the background.
ReplyDeleteAlso love the little urban sketch. It’s strange that the completed paintings I’ve done based on a sketch are rarely as interesting as the sketch.
Not easy for that tyke to be the star of the painting with that bristling bark and luscious leaves surrounding him. But I think he easily manages that with the aplomb of the young.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that security guy has a story, and I am wondering what kind of shop (bank?) that is, and a sign montage would would be nice, and what is going on on that roof?
It's a pot dispensary. As for the roof, that's another, taller building behind the little pot shop. I think I need to add distance if I work it up into a painting.
DeleteLove the portrait. Perfect in tone and expression.
ReplyDeleteThe freshness of this portrait amidst the tree leaves and branches is just amazing. And the urban sketch (in a whole different style) is delightful with its bright colors and minimal detail.
ReplyDeleteThe portrait is perfection! Your colors and brushwork are spot on, and I love the feel of looking up at him, like I just looked up and saw him, hey, what are you doing up there?! The sketch does have a lot energy, maybe from the bright colors…I love the little walk sign!
