I touched this up a little bit and sprayed it with a high gloss fixative. That’s what the reflection shows-and it makes it more vibrant as well as protected.
I finished the big rose. I’m not totally happy with it but I sprayed it so it’s done. If I did it again, I’d definitely make the cream colored background grayer so that the rose would stand out more.

I’m not going to paint any more little 🐕 for free, even though it’s given the 🐕 owners some pleasure.

On to some fall colors.
These look wonderful, especially when I click thru to the bigger versions. You really captured the sparkle in this doggy’s eyes, not to mention great work on the nose and mouth. Love the delicacy of the flower painting, as well as the off kilter composition. The color work on the silver and apples is very luscious . I just feel the composition needs some shadows….
ReplyDeleteI had a nice shadow in it but I didn’t like it. So…. I removed it and liked it better.
DeleteThese look great, Alan. I love that first one—the vibrant colors and the sparkling silver in that quiet neutral field. And I can see why your friend would love that dog portrait. He has so much personality and he's painted so well. You may have a new career as a pet portraitist! I'm not sure about graying the flower's background. That would make it as cool as the flower and I like the subtle difference between warm and cool neutral. I also like the blue vase, and the delicate floral sprays leaning into frame.
ReplyDeleteAs I remember the last time I saw the silver apples it was spectacular. I went past three older posts to find the previous and then I gave up. I will take your word for it that it is even more spectacular than it was before.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that rose, too big or too pale?
Very nice fur and expression on that in that fuzzy happy pup.
