These are the seven crops of this one, which I did not like.
I was going to edit this using what I learned from the magnificent seven, but now I have kind of lost interest in it and I am thinking I may just give all seven 5x7 crops a 9x12 interpretation.

The most successful ones are the ones with backgrounds imo. While the branch closeups are interesting, they just don’t have the tension and depth that the backgrounds add.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Sara—the backgrounds really do add to the painting. There's a depth there that draws you in. I also like the first one the best and I think it's because of the varied brushwork and edges. The background is softer and "blendier" and contrasts well with the sharper, crisper foreground subject. It feels less flat than when the background is as clear as the foreground. But that may just be me?!
