A ramshackle tree and even more ramshackle flowers.

I lost the tenderness of the first time I posted it.  Did different treatments for different parts of the tree but I like to think that the ramshackle has some charm.

Kind of an experiment to see what I could do with just two of my favorite go to paints, indigo and burnt yellow.  Needs a little mop up work, but I think I am on the right track.  Eager to try another two paints only painting.

  1. Hmm....Yes, "lost tenderness" is a good way to describe it. I did like the former soft foliage. I think the sharp contrast between the branches and the leaves isn't working as well as the softer, lost edges. Also, I'm a little confused by the leaning tree at the left and the snake-like line that bisects the painting. I do like the sea and sky and background, though. That second one has a kind of mystical quality with a "come towards the light" vibe. Eager to see where it goes and hoping it doesn't go too far!

  2. That leaning tree was coming out of the big trunk but I let some yellow become between them. While I am fixing that the trunks could use a little work and I will mute some of those branches.

But don't think I am going to make a habit of this.

    1. Oh, I know better than that! Still, I feel a strange rush of power. I like the texture within the trunks—there's something very Van Gogh about them. In fact, the whole bottom feels very impressionist. I just miss the softness in the foliage at top.
