Watercolor surgery….
In both paintings, she’s getting a little facial surgery. I’m ok with his face finally, but his arm llooks slightly diseased. I’m trying to get the effect of dappled sunlight in the bottom one, but it’s very hard with skin. The top one still has a ways to go but it might be a closer resemblance than last week’s….whoknows….

Her face looks really dirty in the second one….an errant brushstroke of purple…
ReplyDeleteGreat job on Ben's face and the composition of the second one. You've got that sleepy heaviness and the feel of nestling into his surrounding arms. Maybe she needs to be a little smaller in the first one...to give her some breathing space? Normally, I'm all for filling the frame and even spilling over, but your subjects are so delicate, they seem to need a touch more air. Not sure about the sun dappling. Maybe the shadows need to be cooler and/or extend definitely beyond just his arm? It really is hard.
ReplyDeleteI know it is foreshortening but she looks like she has T Rex arms. There is just not room enough for her in that frame. Looks like a good girl though.
ReplyDeleteNice cozy scene. Looks like she has fallen asleep in his arms, and now he knows he isn't going anywhere for awhile.
I like the second one just as it is. You might spend more time if you were trying to paint a formal portrait, but I really like the composition and the colors. I wouldn’t worry about the arm either.
ReplyDeleteI think that the arm is fine. It’s just a point of view. I have a little trouble with the jar of flowers in her right hand but you could easily fix that.
She looks younger or more her age this time. But still too squeezed into the picture frame. I think she needs some breathing space. I don't see any dirt on the face in the second painting. And the dappled sun looks fine to me. The only thing that may stand out a little too much is the darkness and sturdiness of the chair...unless more of it came through on the other side by his shoulder and arm to balance it out.
