Maybe a little too much, but I've never been a Miesian.
These are all 5x7 inspired by some trees in the Lurie gardens (can't you tell?) Went in first with viridian and rose to get a blackish background. Then put indigo on top because it wasn't dark enough and vermillion. burnt sienna, and then that imperious lady, perylene maroon, to make complementaries to moody indigo,. Then covered the whole mess gently with water and pressed gently down with a Viva paper towel, and this is what I got. Seems too good to waste on a bunch of trees, but we will see.
This is just me, but I prefer your Yupo pieces with more flow and less precise brushstrokes. In the tree progression, for instance, I find the earlier steps more interesting than when the lines get more and more precise. Although the wetting/blotting saves it! I remember liking the flowers better in person--they seemed to have richer color and better patterning. Did you change that?
ReplyDeleteOk. Good start. Now what?
ReplyDeleteYeah, it seems like the flower painting changed alot since class. Stiffer and more garish in color. The clouds were dark gray and sky pale blue. The flowers just turning red and less restricted. The turquoise more flowing. The stems more fuzzy. It seems Yupo is making you get tinier and stiffer with brushstrokes when it actually offers more freeing and flowing possibilities of all the watercolor papers.
ReplyDeleteThe first 5x7 reminds me of a closeup of cut red cabbage. The last one is very cool when viewed large. I like the texture effect from the paper towel. The flower painting has kind of an alien vibe now, imo. As in creatures from outer space….
