LaSalle Street

Possibly the most interesting cul de sac in Chicago.

My architecture is wobbly. Those colors upper left are some sort of reflection that appeared in the photo. If I learned one lesson here , it’s that I never have any luck using ultramarine as a block of color …  never smoothe. This is small … 6.x8. Might do again larger.

  2. I love that view, everytime I cross LaSalle I pause midstride in the middle of the street to get a gander. I expect those colors are a big flag. Those two buildings right of it could use more detail, but the cars are nice and the streetlights and the general ambience. Bigger is always better.

  3. Oh, I remember the first time I looked down the la salle street canyon and saw Ceres atop the Board of Trade. Art Deco heaven, I thought, I have arrived! I even applied for a job there, way before it was automated, typing out the trades I think but I couldn’t type fast enough….the dark buildings lead the eye down to the bot, but I think buildings flanking it need to be darker so it pops more. Love the way the cars and the street lights are painted, great city feeling…

  5. I know that view well--and love it! I worked around there and think you captured the feel of the way that dark canyon of buildings opens out into the light of the Board of Trade Building. The cars and row of streetlights really add to the city feel, too.
