Alan - Winter 3

This is 12 X 14 on Rough. I was trying a little graduated wash and I always have trouble with that. But I liked it overall

I’ve been looking at an artist using alcohol inks on Yupo lately so I thought I’d try an abstract of the above sunset. It’s pretty complicated but I thought it was a good start. I also used some different India inks which didn’t work out like I expected. I might clean it up some and do regular watercolor on top of that. We’ll see.

  1. I like the first one and I love the second. I like the way that crooked white line separates the the heavy and the hazy. I don't think any cleaning up is called for here.

  2. Both of these are much more exciting when viewed big. Love the textures in the alcohol inks. It reminds me of a birds-eye view of a winding road thru a canyon. The sunset has an apocalyptic vibe, imo. But maybe I’ve been watching too much wildfire coverage…I really like the depth of the colors, especially the blues…

  3. These are fantastic. I love the textures on the second one and the first with the highly saturated yellow and deep rich blue just is the essence of contre jour.
