The top one works much better now. The subject and background is integrated well. And I really like the personality of that guy. If he was in a cartoon, he'd be that tough little dog with the bowler hat cocked over his eye. Good start on the chubby little guy. He's going to be a cutie. When you're finished, you'll have a whole family, with backstories.

Whatever you did seems to pop the fish to the foreground. The second one hasn’t yet sprung to life for me- he looks like the proverbial dead fish...I don’t know why, but your paintings are the hard3st to grasp in this virtual format. I can’t quite figure out why...
I kind of agree with you on that. I think it is mostly because they are so big and the jpg is so small and a lot of the detail is lost, and I am really into detail. Nothing makes my heart sing like dabbing several colors atop each other in the crevices of some tiny details
