Playing around….

I did a quick new version of these two lovebirds, with a larger, more dramatic sky. Not sure it’s the direction I want to go in…here’s the other version for comparison …inexplicably they appear larger in the first version below, but they are actually the same size in both paintings. I’m favoring the first version (below) because the emphasis is on them….i also like the less dramatic water and sky….

Oh, and here’s the recent self portrait— directly painted…I didn’t even comb my hair…

  1. The size difference is not inexplicable— the top one is on 11x15 paper, the bottom one is on 7x10…

  2. Yes, it does make a difference. That second one is about them and their relationship. The first one—they're still in a relationship, but it's about them as a unit facing what's going on in the outside world (the storm or whatever else is appearing in that sky). I like both, but for your intent, the second one wins. And I like the soft ethereal quality of that self-portrait with just the touch of soft blue.

  4. I was never sure what those two white spots in the sky were, but now I have seen the finished and that has been resolved.
Do I see a bit of Nora Desmond in your self-portrait? Maybe just the attitude.
