Life’s a beach….

I
I started painting in all beach activity and stuff, and then realized there was no way I could finish that….so I took most of it out. I think I’m going to paint it again, with just them.

Here they are again. I painted this once before and was not successful and again, in the top painting, I’m not too successful: it’s too dark and blotchy, so maybe the third time is the charm. At least it’s a better start. I don’t know why I’m drawn to this image,it’s not particularly good, but there’s something that’s interesting to me. And there’s kind that weird light you get at the beach when it’s cloudy.

  1. Those are both interesting images. You should definitely carry on with them. I agree that all the "beach stuff" distracts from the couple and you're right to remove it. There's a storm rolling in on the top second painting. Makes it feel like they just noticed and are getting ready to get up and evacuate before the big one hits!

  2. Well see, everytime you put people in your painting they become the whole story, but of course these are ABOUT people so I guess that's ok. The first becomes more sober, slightly sad without the beach stuff, and is it just me, but do that pail and shovel look sinister? Probably just me.

In the second I think it's all about that guy because he is the observer just like us. Is he bringing back a couple hot dogs, or is he holding a knife behind his back. In either case I think you should leave some open space between his beard and her knees.
